Golden (or Silver) Globes
I thought I’d add my tuppence worth in for the sake of having a little bit of colour and style to look at in January! How lovely to see people getting dressed up, whilst we are all sat here post mince pies and sticky toffee puddings! I mean, do these celebs ‘really’ get to enjoy Christmas … with the knowledge of an upcoming appearance? My answer would be… ‘yes’!, I’m sure they do. I’m sure they are fully body confident and if they aren’t, they can at least act like they are! Lights, camera, action and all that…
So my feelings on judging people are always the same every year. I don’t like to ‘judge’. Who am I to comment on how a look has come together? I completely stand by ‘personal style’ and embrace confidence and creativity at the forefront! That said, I can pick a colour and comment on whether it’s perhaps the correct shade against a skin tone. It’s part of my job as a stylist specialising in colour to get this right. So I thought I’d simply try to show you the ‘rights and wrongs’ when it comes to picking your gown, jewellery, make-up and hair.
Here are my thoughts;
I noted that ALL the celebrities were opting for Silver Jewellery. Even the warm skin tones. I like this though. it’s fresh and fun to play around with your accessories and good for me, STATEMENT pieces are a key trend for 2025.
There were a lot of ‘Grace Kelly’ style hairstyles and silhouettes which I adore. Zendaya and Selena in particular.
When you get your colour right - you shine brighter. It lifts your face shape, frame and posture, putting you at the forefront, not the dress.
If you are going for a silver or gold gown, try to ensure it’s complementary to your skin tone. Cool (silver), Warm (gold). See, for example, Nicole and Demi. I’d of swapped their gowns. Nicole is a Spring and Demi a Winter.
Also lots of Kate Middleton/Ailsa from Frozen Gloves are on the go. Not sure how I feel about these.
Some of my favourite looks from the night… based on the colour and style of the gown.
Some of my favourites down here, but I’ve popped in another look where I see them shining, rather than the Globes look. For the following reasons;
Angelina - I feel like her hair is too warm at the moment for her cool season. I think she’s a cool summer, not quite a winter.
Kerry - I think being petite, this is all a little overpowering, but especially the make-up. I think less is more and fresh over too made up.
Keira - I love Black Doves, but just not for her to be in black too much. I love her when she does the monochromatic androgynous dressing, but I think she’s more of a warm undertone… potentially autumn.
Mikey - my preference is silver. The gold is overpowering her IMO.
But again - it’s tricky with lights, camera and make-up - that’s why you need a person-to-person visit!
